Bench Finished..Kinda

The workbench part of the build is finished. All that is left is making a tool tray.

Tomorrow my guess is I'll spend most of the day digging through the wood pile trying to find something 4/4 wide enough, long enough, and straight enough to make a tool tray. I really don't want to go to the wood store.

Right now for the tool tray, if I find an ok hunk of wood, I'm thinking a simple rebate with glue and cut nails, quick and dirty but with the nails it should look pretty good. If I end up using some Pine I'll have to think about it.

  1. This end looks good. I hadn't picked up on you face gluing the slab together. Are you going to put holes in the slab for bench hooks?

  2. Ralph,

I'm not sure on dog holes just yet. I plan on selling this bench or giving it away whichever happens first :-). I figure I'll let the new owner put the dog holes where he/she wants them.

I just looked at the photo, it does look like the slab is face glued. I just haven't finished cleaning up the cut. It is a normal glue up of vertical slats.

Get an adze and you could start a dugout tool tray movement. Something for when the temps go below 105F.

When does the next bench start?

  4. Steve,

Don't tell MsBubba but I may go to the wood store this week. Starting mid-Sept Sweet Maggie Dog and I will be without adult supervision until late November. I expect I could finish the next one before MsBubba makes it back to Tucson :-).
