Everyone Needs a Shop Critter

Sweet Maggie Dog is a good shop dog. The machines do not bother her, the only downside is she is usually asleep in the one spot you need to stand and maybe MsBubba blaming me for the wood chips in the house

I've been playing with the Tormek buffing wheel to see if it will give a "Unicorn" effect. The first uses have been promising, much more so than the soft cotton wheel on the grinder. This has caused some moving of sharpening "stuff". I now have a sharpening "wall" not just a sharpening bench.

I was trying to organize my shop and there is so much extra stuff, tools, and wood that I can't do anything. It's embarrassing. Certainly no space for a dog to lay down and she would just try to lick the peanut butter out of the mouse traps.

    I need an ebay turfout.

    1. Steve,

Sounds like my shop as well other than the mouse traps. On the other side of the shop are cardboard boxes I'm trying to fill with some of the extra junk. So far they are mostly in the way because I pick up something to go in one of the boxes and think "I might need that to..." and back on the shelf it goes.

  2. I had to look up what 'unicorn' sharpening was. I thought it was about the hollow and I was wrong.

Only works on crappy steel;) You'll need to go to Lowes and buy chisels...

It's basically the edge treatment you would have seen on your Swiss Made carving tools from the factory.

  4. Lovely workshop companion, my wife loved her.
Funny that she is the one bringing shavings in the house, my wife is complaining about me doing the same, but I must admit I am her bear lol :)

    1. Thanks Lionel, and thank your wife. Sweet Maggie Dog earns her name, she is the sweetest dog I've ever had in my life.

  5. My last shop dog was a Bearded Collie (like an English sheep dog but with a tail) Being a herder, could not throw out any piece of wood, he would bring it back and put it in his own piles :-)

Love my Jake. We had to put him down around 10 YO, hardest thing I ever did before watching Heather die under my eyes :-(
Rudy and Diva are so far not allowed downstairs, way too much stuff for them to get in troubles. They do come into the power tool shop aka garage, but Rudy is more interested in chasing rodents around the garage and the yard. Good boy :-)

Re-organizing my sharpening corner is high on my to do list in the shop this year

Bob, with a few chisels in need of love.

    1. Bob,

Not a year ago we had to put down Sam the Wonder Dog, I still tear up when I think about the loss.

Love the story of Jake's wood pile.

I had sharpening gear in several places around the shop. A week or so ago I was looking at the bench, which was being used mostly as a wood storage area, and realized it would make a great addition to my sharpening area. Still have organizing to do but I think it will work out.
