Two OF's In The Shop

Having a whisky with a friend in the shop. Nothing like two Old Farts trying to remember what day it is while enjoying a whisky.

A photo of the "sharpening wall". It is a work in progress but when finished will have all the sharpening tools in one place including the saw vise.

I've started using the Tormek on the kitchen knifes and shavespoke cutters, it really works a treat on both. I've gone back and forth between stone wheels, CBN, and Diamond wheels. While slower, the original stone wheel is the best all around option. As posted earlier, the leather buffing wheel with compound seems to give a "better" Unicorn edge than the soft cotton wheel on the grinder. I'm still playing with it but really like the results so far.

  1. You need a sink for the sharpening area for it to be complete.

    1. Ralph,

I have never felt the need for a sink, maybe if I had one I would change my mind. :-)

I have a bottle of Scotch hidden under my bench but no glasses.

    Not Covid friendly.

I need couple of drinking stools too.

    1. Steve,

I need a glass, but life isn't worth living without a little whisky :-). I'm married to one but I should have been a Scott.

Except for the haggis. Tried it at our local Highland Games to check off that box and I think cat food would be better, or the same.

I think it was canned haggis, not fresh, but not going to seek out fresh.

    3. Steve,

That's the problem, canned Haggis is close to cat food. Fresh Haggis and eggs for a good Scott breakfast is as good as it gets. Our local Highland Games is funny as well, lots of folks in kilts that have never been there.

    1. Lionel,

You can never have too many chisels :-). I admit to a serious chisel jones but I'm getting better, I think. My excuse is each chisel does something a little better than the other chisels. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

  4. Proper thing to do, Cheers!
I had a sink in my last two garage shops , although it was handy it was not without problems. Something to do with the cold around here :-)

This time, being in the basement (hand tools shop) I have a bathroom a few steps away which is very handy. It is also located by my bar fridge :-)

As for Lionel`s excuse to buy more tools... I have lots of excuses ready made if you ever need more :-) Your results may vary, but they are proven to work. Well if your spouse play along :-)

Bob, who is taking down the Christmas lights outside while it is still not too cold. We been hovering around Zero C for a while, unseasonably warm but no one is bitching :-)

    1. Bob,

We are in the process of draining and re-filling the pool. Yesterday after MsBubba's second Martini she decided it was a perfect time for a swim. All I can say is "thanks to the Martini's she didn't freeze."

  5. On a previous trip to Cuba, we went for a Spa treatment. They obviously do not use pool heaters, the sun does it...except when its been covered for a few days :-) I asked about the pool temp outside while we waited . He said Its cold for us Cuban, but should be fine for you Canadian. NO IT WAS NOT could not talked Jean in going in the water. Its not that cold baby, just because I'm turning blue and shaking does not mean it is cold you know :-)

Bob, who is about to run out of Cuban rum...time for a trip.. to the liquor store ..for now :-)
