Time for my Juneteenth post. I just saw on MSNBC that a group of congress critters were going to introduce a bill to make Juneteenth a national holiday. It is about time, Juneteenth is the day we kinda started to live up to our talk, 160 odd years later we still are not walking the walk but there is hope. Tomorrow remember we can be better.

Never heard of Juneteenth before, except on your blog. BUt hehe any excuse is always good for a National Holiday, just as long as you still get paid or work at double hourly rate. Fair is fair :-)
ReplyDeleteBob, who don't need much excuses for celebrating. Cheers! :-)
Bob, you probably heard of it because of this guy:

Steve, Bob,
DeleteFor once Trump almost told the truth. He did bring more awareness to Juneteenth, he was wrong about no one knowing about it.

Ken,
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. It's a symbol but symbols are important sometimes.
Andy
Andy,
DeleteIn a just world emancipation day would be as important as the 4th.

Happy Juneteenth and best wishes from Canada where we have plenty of issues of our own to deal with - worth mentioning that the Central Park dog walker was Canadian.
ReplyDeletePaul,
DeleteThe good news is the world is changing, much too slowly but it is happening.

Wow been looking into it, quite a National disgrace, but should be never forgotten :-(
ReplyDeleteBob
Bob,
DeleteYep, the South lost the war but won the peace for the last 150 years.
We had a chance in the 60's then Nixon, if there were a hell he should burn forever for the Southern strategy and 50,000 US deaths, gave the assholes a political party and new life.

thank you for your steadfast observation of Juneteenth on your blog, Ken - and i am also cautiously optimistic about our culture making some progress on owning up to endemic racism.
ReplyDeleteAdam,
DeleteThanks, it is happening much too slowly but at least there is some movement. As always the young may end up saving us.
