After taking the top off I could not see any damage but the side of the shipping crate was also pushed in.
Looking in the top of the crate things look OK.
Got the back off and found the damage.
It is a shame, it is a beautiful chair, I hope it survives the return trip and Chris can repair it. If he can I want it back.

DeleteYep, it could be worse. On additional inspection and emailing CS I now have the chair home and I should be able to fix it.
Besides now the chair has a great story.

DeleteI never had doubts about CS and yes he has come through. BTW it is a beautiful chair with a one piece seat and the whole chair from a single Cherry log. It should age wonderfully.

DeleteHe did and does. I'm not sure the crate could be improved, not much that can be done to stop a forklift with a dufus driver. My guess is the crate saved the chair.

It is a pity, sorry for that Ken.
ReplyDeleteThe crate does not look so strong to me. I am not an expert but it does look a thin plywood without much reinforcement on the sides. Maybe something that could be improved.
Anyway hopefully it will be fixed and you will enjoy it. Take the opportunity to measure the round tenon size now that it is out :)
