Not only the back bevels but most of the chisels were slightly rounded. My plan is to work the backs with each sharpening but not worry about getting it flat to the edge. That will happen over time. After working the back and the bevel I'm giving the back a good workout on a leather strop to remove the wire edge. The chisels are wickedly sharp after the stropping and I expect after a dozen or so sharpening the backs will be flat. Should save iron and time.

ken soon to join the ranks of traveling Gramps.I'm a OK guyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11843155822153452980noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12079088.post-87179844295269477852018-07-31T13:50:06.855-07:002018-07-31T13:50:06.855-07:00Bob,

That may take care of the back bevel. Whatever us legt i would then square the tip and sharpen the usual way.
And yes, carvers often uses back bevel, it helps steer the blade in and out of the wood.

Bob, taking a break before our next rounds of visits Valley Woodworkerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07322487171914484954noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12079088.post-25931818065951534652018-07-31T05:53:19.775-07:002018-07-31T05:53:19.775-07:00You are correct Ken, imperial, not metric...back i...You are correct Ken, imperial, not metric...back in the days :-)

Look like you are catching up nicely with my own, Ahem, assortments of chisels :-)

Bob, travellingValley Woodworkerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07322487171914484954noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12079088.post-92074277431941831922018-07-28T12:13:04.974-07:002018-07-28T12:13:04.974-07:00Ralph,
