It sometimes helps with the single iron planes to have a steeper pitch. With the small Philly I don't notice any extra effort because of the steep pitch and it works wonders on some really ugly grain.

ken
I'm a OK guyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11843155822153452980noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12079088.post-10121581258294171092015-11-21T13:20:44.580-08:002015-11-21T13:20:44.580-08:00Stefan,
The ECE scrub plane and the Try plane we...Stefan,

The ECE scrub plane and the Try plane were two of the first planes I bought forty some odd years ago, the others from that time are a couple or three Record's that I still have and use. The other ECE's I've picked up off eBay for not too much money. I do not have a current production ECE, best I can tell from the photos of current models they no longer make a classic woodie but the current ones have attachments to hold the wedge. It's a shame because the old one were a great value, a classic woodie at a good price.

ken

I'm a OK guyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11843155822153452980noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12079088.post-9071103715654824562015-11-20T19:15:31.974-08:002015-11-20T19:15:31.974-08:00Stefan,

I even did not know that they have made such a model.
Cheers,
StefanAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17569365598390231433noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12079088.post-8962127797814868302015-11-20T05:36:40.613-08:002015-11-20T05:36:40.613-08:00Im guessing those shopbuilt planes have Hock irons...Im guessing those shopbuilt planes have Hock irons in them? Quite a variety of bedding angles in those bench woodies. Similarly, that's why I kept 12 smoothers in my stable :-)

Bob, scratching Ruddy ears and bellyValley Woodworkerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07322487171914484954noreply@blogger.com
